Since its founding in 1978, Akron Rebar Company has been a leader in providing reinforcing steel and related products and services to the commercial, residential, and the precast industry. You’ll find our steel in some of Midwest’s most iconic structures, including commercial buildings, bridges, parking garages, waste water plants, culverts and sports stadiums.

Throughout the decades, as we supplied steel reinforcement and related products, our company developed a strong reputation for high-quality solutions, services and value. Our skilled professional management team has over 200 years of combined rebar experience.

Today, under new ownership by the Humphrey family of Akron, Ohio, the company is investing in leading-edge equipment to provide even better service to Akron Rebar Company’s clients and position the company for strong, long-term growth.

President and CEO Michael B. Humphrey II has a sophisticated finance and operations background, including serving as Executive Vice President of Operations at Republic Steel. His father, Michael Humphrey, Esq., is CFO and General Counsel of Akron Rebar Company, who retired in 2017 from KPMG as a Managing Director.

  • Michael B. Humphrey II

    President & CEO

    Prior to purchasing Akron Rebar Company, Michael II served as Executive Vice President of Operations at Republic Steel. His experience spans advisory, operations risk, finance, security, procurement, logistics, sales planning, and operations management. Additionally, he was the Chief of Police of Republic Steels wholly owned subsidiary Republic N&T Railroad (NTRY). Specific activities included: strategic sourcing and supplier development; strategic planning; enterprise security; project and risk management; and process improvement. Prior to Republic Steel, his work centered on finance and operations risk at top companies such as The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company and KPMG, LLP. He holds an MBA in International Business, a BA in International Affairs, and is a Lean/Six Sigma Black Belt. In addition, Michael is a certified police officer with the Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission.

  • Michael B. Humphrey Sr.

    CFO & General Counsel

    Michael Sr. (Mr. H.) is the founder and Managing Partner at Sentinel Intelligence Group LLC. In November of 2017 he retired from KPMG as a Managing Director, after ten plus years. He was a leader within KPMG's forensic financial services practice. He has over 30 years of experience in management advisory to the financial services and healthcare industries. He is an attorney, accountant, retired certified fraud examiner and certified financial crimes investigator and is a Lean/Six Sigma Black Belt. He is a recipient of the Ohio Sentinel Award for excellence in fraud investigation and prevention (for the private sector) awarded by the Ohio Auditor of State, the Ohio Attorney General and U.S. District Attorney of Northern Ohio. He is a graduate of the FBI Citizens Academy-Cleveland Division. He was an adjunct Law Professor at the University of Akron, School of Law and the Accounting Graduate School where he instructed the course entitled Fraud and Financial Forensics. Over his career he has held various banking positions at multiple financial institutions.

  • Nicole Scalia

    Vice President

    Nicole is responsible for communicating and implementing Akron Rebar Company’s vision, mission and overall direction, in accordance with the strategy set by the CEO. In addition to driving the overall mission and strategy, Nicole is directly responsible for all activities pertaining to supply chain and procurement and is heavily focused on creating realizable value through reduced raw material costs and efficiencies across the operation and supply chain. Nicole has over 15 years of Supply Chain experience where she has performed at an executive level within the steel industry. Nicole attended Baldwin Wallace University and earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and Management.

  • Huzziel Soto

    Corporate Controller

    Huzziel Joined the Akron Rebar Company finance team in 2018. He is responsible for Financial Reporting and Analysis, Treasury, Internal Controls, Auditing, Due Diligence and Acquisition Integration. He attended Kent State University and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting. He has held various finance and accounting positions, including auditor at a Public Accounting firm, Bober Markey Fedorovich prior to shifting to industry.

  • Jack W. Widmer

    Director of Sales, Marketing

    Jack joined Akron Rebar Company shortly after the acquisition in 2018. Jack directs the company sales strategy in accordance to the mission set forth by the CEO. He is responsible for creating, developing and implementing a comprehensive retail program, and oversees the online presence and all marketing and press. Prior to involvement in the Construction Industry, Jack was the CEO of his private Marketing and Promotions company. Jack brings 40 years of Sales, Marketing, and Management experience to the Akron Rebar Company team.

  • Matt Yakovich

    Operations Manager

    Matt joined the Akron Rebar Company team in October 2019 as Operations Manager of the Akron Rebar facility. Matt leads all aspects of operations and is focused on delivering quality products on time to our customers. Previously Matt served 7 years at a major steel company where he quickly ascended from Supervisor of Finishing and Shipping to Department Manager of Billet Conditioning and the Quality Verification Line. Matt graduated from Bowling Green State University in 2008 with a BSBA in Management.

  • Bill Johns

    VP/General Manager Akron Erectors

    Bill joined Akron Rebar Company November 2019 as Vice President/General Manager of Akron Erectors. Over the last 20 years Bill has filled his tool box full of management experience; from stamping plants and steel service centers, to a large precision fabrication supplier for government components. After serving in the United States Navy he went to work in the machine repair field and accelerated through the ranks into management. Bill worked his way through college to earn his BA in Business Administration from Ashworth University.

  • Jesse Rohrer

    Lead Estimator / Sales

    Jesse has been with Akron Rebar Company for 18 years and is the Head of the Estimating Department. Jesse is a graduate from the University of Akron with an Associates of Applied Science in Drafting and Computer Drafting Technology.

  • John Verlaney

    Materials Control Manager

    After serving 4 years in the U.S. Air Force, John earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Business/Industrial Management at the University of Akron. His extensive construction industry experience includes production, estimating, sales, project leader, and general management. After an initial 18 years in the rebar industry, followed by 18 years in various interior product scopes, he has returned to the business with the new Akron Rebar Company.

  • John Tekus

    Detailing Manager

    John has been with The Akron Rebar Company for over 36 years. John is actively involved in three Concrete Reinforcing Steel Institute (CRSI) Committees: Reinforcing Bar Detailing, Placing Reinforcing Bars, and Manual of Standard Practice

  • Robert Wattley

    Shipping & Receiving Manager

    Bringing with him over 15 years of experience in management of Logistics and Shipping & Receiving, Robert joined the Akron Rebar Team in 2019. Robert served his country in the U.S. Army for 11 years including 2 tours in Iraq. He earned his BA degree in Supply Chain Management (SCM).

  • Nino Gonzalez

    General Superintendant - Erection

    Nino brings 22 years experience as an Iron Worker, with over 20 years as a Foreman to his role of General Superintendent of Akron Erectors. He has developed extensive placement expertise in Bridge Infrastructure, Water Treatment Plants, Post Tension Construction, and Industrial Press Pits as a Union Worker.

  • Brian Jones

    President B Steel Erectors

    Brian started working as an Iron Worker over 40 years ago. Going into his 4th year he became a foreman, shortly after that a general foreman. Brian began estimating projects in 1995, and by 2000 he began Project Management while still overseeing rebar placement in the field. In May of 2009 Brian started B Steel Erectors and it’s been full steam ahead since then.
